Schwetzingen on the Way to World Cultural Heritage

The pyramids of Giza, the Great Wall of China, Versailles Palace, Maulbronn Monastery, ...
and soon Schwetzingen as well?

Schwetzingen

The ensemble consisting of the gardens, palace and town is a unique testimonial from the 18th century.  The complex experienced its peak as a summer residential palace under Elector Carl Theodor, however its value for cultural history extends far beyond national interests.

If the efforts of the German state of Baden-Württemberg and the town of Schwetzingen are successful, Schwetzingen could be soon mentioned in the same breath with the world's most important cultural monuments.

But the targeted inclusion of Schwetzingen in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List is a lengthy process.  From the submission of the UNESCO application, specific steps are required to ensure the preservation, care and determination of the joint cultural heritage as defined in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
