The garden has been well preserved in all areas up until today. The palace interior was extensively remodeled in the 19th century. After the death of the Grand Duchess Stephanie in 1860, the palace was only used for day trips of the Court, which also removed valuable furnishings. In 1919 the "Corps de Logis" (Main Building) was converted to a palace museum.
The rooms of the main palace building were restored in 1975-1991. In the process the 19th century alterations were removed and the rooms returned to the state ascertained in the inventories of the 18th century for approximately 1775, the age of Duke Carl Theodor.
